As part of the CET Group of Companies, we’re taking part in raising money for charities that support people experiencing mental ill health, as part of awareness raising and fundraising activities during Mental Health Awareness Week (13th – 19th May).
We’re asking our employees and our clients to vote for their favourite challenges by donating £1 via our #MHAW Challenger’s JustGiving page. Every £1 counts as 1 vote. The top six will take on their challenge across Mental Health Awareness Week and beyond.
Kev Tonge, MD of Construction Testing Solutions, tells us more about his challenge, his nominated charity and why he deserves your vote.
Tonge goes Teetotal
Why did you choose this challenge?
I’m giving up alcohol for two weeks – what more can I say?
Anyone who knows me will tell you how tough this challenge is going to be. It’s not just the not drinking part that will get me – it’s getting absolutely annihilated by the lads in the pub when I order my Orange Juice at the bar.
But on a serious note, we know that Alcohol plays a part in our Mental Health and for some, alcohol plays a big role in the way that they either deal with how they feel, or can have a serious effect on their mental wellbeing.
Which charity will you be supporting?
My votes will be donated to the Lighthouse Club, which is the only charity in the UK set up to support people working in the Construction industry. Both CTS and CET benefit from the service the Lighthouse Club provides through the Construction Industry Helpline, which provides telephone support, as well as support through the app. If you don’t feel you can talk to one of our Mental Health First Aiders, please use their service by calling 0345 605 1956 or by downloading the app.
What does taking part in raising awareness of Mental Health issues mean to you?
We’ve just recently trained 2 Mental Health First Aiders at CTS, so Mental Health is high on the agenda for us. Taking part will hopefully raise more awareness of how important it is for us to take care of our Mental Health and to get talking to each other when we feel we need support.
To vote for Kev, visit his JustGiving page. Voting closes at 5pm on Tuesday 7th May.
