CTS attends the Concrete Society (Wales Region) Spring Lunch

Our colleagues Zoe Cooper and Amy Parekh-Pross recently attended the Concrete Society (Wales Region) Spring Lunch, thanks to the kind invitation from Beton Bauen, who were the main sponsors for the event.

The Concrete Society is a valuable and trusted source of technical content for our Structures and Pavements Division, alongside a whole host of companies who are involved in this field. The society is dedicated to supporting the use of concrete.

Steve Davies, Managing Director of Beton Bauen commented:

“As the title sponsor for this year’s Concrete Society Spring Lunch, we were absolutely delighted with the events of the day.

Good food and great speakers with monies raised going to the children’s charity – WOODEN SPOON.

Feedback received from clients, colleagues, Society members and friends is excellent”

“Our aim is to form strong partnerships and work in collaboration with high caliber clients such as Beton Bauen” said Zoe Cooper.

Highlights of the Event

The elegant and fabulous presenter Sian Lloyd hosted the lunch, and we were entertained by Award-winning Welsh comedian Rod Woodward had the whole room laughing uproariously!

We were also treated to a reading of a poem called ‘Concrete Is My Business’ which Steve Davies came across 30 years ago in the Philippines and it was a perfect fit for this occasion.

Concrete is my business.

Concrete is my business. My future welfare and the well-being of my family depend on the quality of the work I do.

I have chosen concrete out of all the construction materials of the earth as the one in which to specialize. I have done this because I feel that concrete is a material of integrity. Mixed and placed with understanding hands, concrete will not fail. Therefore, the work I do well now will survive and serve long after I am gone.

Concrete walls impound billions of gallons of water for relief of a thirsty desert or hold safe from spillage and rodents millions of bushels of life-giving grain.

Concrete bridges the broadest rivers and hold back devouring floods from cities and towns. Concrete towers rear their proud heads towards the blue. Concrete shafts and tunnels pierce the black depths of the earth or penetrate beneath the waters.

Concrete builds a safe pathway for the darting miracles of steel which link our cities and towns.

For my customers, a concrete home will protect and safeguard their loved ones from the dragons of fire or the rendering violence of storms day and night, in all seasons, in all climates.Concrete is my business poem

Concrete is strong.

For the architects whom I serve, concrete is a design medium with which they can create structures of beauty and charm, of rare delicacy and sturdy utility.

Future generations will enjoy the things we of today have wrought of concrete for it is a material of integrity and will endure.

Because I respect and love the material, I can serve my country, my community and those to come after me by doing my work intelligently and honestly, thus creating useful things that endure.

Concrete is my business. I am proud of it.
